Much magic was experienced at last Friday's IRP - video below. If you're not familiar, and more people need to be, Invent Room Pop is an intimate gathering of adventuresome souls hosted by Eyedrum's Robby Kee at Beep Beep, once a month. If you need new sounds and fresh happenings, and like your music on the "anything can happen" tip, you need to be there.

A great moment from Invent Room Pop's 2nd Anniversary show. Cecilia Trode (viola) Lindsay Smith (bass clarinet)

"Local four-piece Blackfox play sludgy, guitar-driven rock rooted in a kind of grungy blues that’s both dirty yet melodic...hints of early Soundgarden, Bowie and Sonic Youth spilling out all over the place, but the group never buckles beneath the weight of so much hero worship. Rat Mass track Only The Weak Die At Home gets a great write-up on Latest Disgrace - with awesome phrases like "thundering drum blasts, improvisational guitar freakouts and foreboding subliminal textures." That's how we do.

They like us! They really like us!

"After years of playing together in a wide-ranging assortment of Atlanta bands, musicians Mitchell Sosebee (drums) and Ryan Taylor (guitars, electronics) converge their creativity to the core with their new mano-a-mano venture Rat Mass. The duo’s five track, instrumental EP1 is a compelling wallop of torrential percussion, inexorable bass annihilation, jabs of electric guitar and pervasive electrical sonic accents, all improvised live in the studio. At times it borders on metal, but most metal bands I’ve heard can’t muster this sort of prolonged intensity, usually because the singer opens his mouth and starts croaking some comical demonic nonsense." - Stomp and Stammer
